Basic Blackjack RulesIf you are new to the game of Blackjack, you need to learn and remember
these basic Blackjack rules if you intend on winning some serious money online. Too
often, novice players
dive straight into to an online casino, pick a Blackjack game and start playing
without completely understanding the rules:
Online Blackjack is a traditional casino gambling game played with one or more
decks of cards. Each deck consists of 52 cards broken into four suits, each made
up of a 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace.
In Blackjack, however, some cards take on different values. Aces are
valued at either 1 or 11, Kings, Queens and Jacks are valued at 10 and cards 2
to 10 retain their face value.
The objective in online Blackjack is to beat the dealer by having cards that add
up to 21, which is called 'Blackjack'. Unlike Poker, in Blackjack you play
against the dealer, not your fellow players.
The dealer will deal you and every other player two face up cards, and himself
one face up and one face down card. If you have 21 or Blackjack, you are an
instant winner.?If not, you can choose to 'stay' or 'draw', which means
ask the dealer to give you another card. You can continue drawing until you
cards value over 21 in which case you 'bust' and lose your bet.
The secret to online Blackjack is to get as close to 21 without busting. If you
are dealt a King and an eight, you have 18 and would be wise to stay. If you are
dealt a four and a five, you would be wise to draw.
Once you and the other players have all stayed, drawn or busted, the dealer
flips over his face down card. He will also try to get 21 or as close as possible.
However, as the dealer, he is required to draw if his cards value sixteen or less, and
stay if his cards value seventeen or higher.
If you and the dealer both show cards valued at below 21, the closest to 21
wins. If the values of the your cards are equal, this is known as a 'tie' and all bets
are returned.
In terms of online Blackjack betting, the payout is 1:1. This means a $10 bet
will get you $20 back. If you get a Blackjack, you get 3:2. This means on a $10
bet, you will get $25 back.
If you are feeling lucky you can choose to 'double down'. As the name suggests,
this is when you double your initial bet because you are confident in beating
the dealer. Most professional online Blackjack players usually double down on 11
because a face card will give them Blackjack.
If you are dealt a pair, you can choose to 'split' them. This means that you can
play each card as a separate hand and bet on each independently.
